Why hire a bookkeeper?

I'm glad you asked! On the surface, the work a bookkeeper provides does not appear to be valuable – but it is! You are busy managing your business – promoting, marketing, networking, advertising – and providing services/products to your clients. You don’t have time for bookkeeping. And besides, you may think, what’s the big deal? I can do that bookkeeping stuff, just not now. And you’re right - you can do a little bookkeeping here and there. BUT there will come a time when you NEED to do it. All of it.

· To report a profit or loss.

· To establish financial liability. 

And, inevitability, you are going to have to spend time and money to organize and maintain your business finances.

Think of it like this…

Bookkeeping is like having a housekeeper. A housekeeper keeps your house in order. You can only go for so long just doing a little housework each week. At some point, you need to vacuum the rugs, curtains, and furniture; clean the floors, bedrooms, and living areas; and stock up/buy supplies for the kitchen and bathroom. Of course, you can take time off from work to do this all yourself – or you can hire a housekeeper.  

Bookkeeping is the same thing, only for your business. You hire a bookkeeper to organize, record and collect your business finances on a daily basis. A bookkeeper tracks and records all business expenses to separate your business and personal finances and so you are informed at all times on your business is doing financially – how and where the business is making money, spending money, and saving money, etc.  

Just as a housekeeper maintains your house while you are working, a bookkeeper maintains your finances while you run your business.
